Black History Month may have ended in February but Carl Topilow and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra are still honoring the contributions of the many African American composers and artists who have shaped music and the world.
The incredibly talented jazz trumpeter, vocalist and entertainer, Byron Stripling, has graced the stage at Severance Hall many times with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. In this conversation, Byron shares how music was woven into the Civil Rights movement and the impact it had on the spirits of those protesting. He also talks about his early life with his father as a choir director and moving from the south to the north for a better way of life.
